Commercial sperm banks operate on anonymity and high markups—often failing to verify basic claims made by donors. Here are the three biggest reasons intended parents choose a verified known donor:
Anonymous sperm banks frequently rely on self-reported questionnaires without verifying degrees, mental health history, or criminal records. Working with a known donor lets you verify my identity, test scores, and genome directly.
Donor sperm at commercial sperm banks now costs over $2,000 per vial. Because IUI usually requires multiple vials or multiple monthly cycles to achieve pregnancy, families routinely spend $8,000–$15,000+ just on vials.
I provide my sperm free of charge ($0). My sperm has already been frozen, infectious-disease tested, 6-month quarantined, and legally cleared to use in clinical ART / IUI / IVF procedures (just like commercial sperm bank vials).
Even "Open ID" commercial bank donors forbid any contact until the child turns 18—leaving parents unable to ask follow-up questions or give their child a sense of connection growing up.
With a known donor arrangement, you have the ability to contact me (and connect with donor siblings if desired) before the child turns 18, while still having a clear legal known-donor agreement protecting your parental rights.

NPHS2 (c.686G>A, p.R229Q). As an autosomal recessive carrier, I am completely healthy and unaffected. Moreover, the Sema4 clinical interpretation notes that p.R229Q does not cause disease even in the homozygous state—it is only clinically relevant if the biological mother happens to carry a specific severe pathogenic mutation in exons 7 or 8 of the NPHS2 gene. Standard pre-conception carrier screening of the egg source easily confirms compatibility.
Verified 23andMe Ancestry Composition showing 99.9% European heritage (98.8% Northwestern European: 47.2% French & German / Dutch, 32.8% British & Irish, 2.3% Scandinavian, and 16.5% Broadly Northwestern European).
